When the input is active, then the voltage inside the linear actuator controller will be set to 0V, this allows current pass thought from PLC to linear actuator controller.Ī PNP/high-side/active-high/sourcing output commutes between supply (24 V) when active ("sources") and high-impedance (think "open relay") when inactive ("does not source").Ī NPN/low-side/active-low/sinking output will switch its signal to GND when active ("sinks") and high-impedance when disconnected ("does not sink"). We need PLC DIGITAL OUTPUT SOURCING (PNP), so that there is 24V from PLC. NPN (sinking) linear actuator controller inputs will provide a path to go to GND, we assume that there are internal loads inside the linear actuator controller. If the linear actuator controller output is active, then current can pass thought from PLC to linear actuator controller (means active). NPN (sinking) linear actuator controller outputs will provide a path to go to GND (controller common = 0V/GND), so we need to set our PLC to be PNP (sourcing INPUT) to supply current to pass thought the path, that's why the PLC DIGITAL OUTPUT COMMON = 24V.
